SABAH ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND INVESTMENT AUTHORITY

Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA) is entrusted as the One-Stop Authority to drive the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC), with the primary responsibility to plan, co-ordinate, promote and accelerate the development of SDC. In order to expedite the implementation of SDC, the Sabah State Legislative Assembly had approved the instrument for the establishment of SEDIA via the adoption of the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority Enactment 2009 on January 15, 2009. The Enactment was assented by Tuan Yang Terutama Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sabah on February 23, and gazetted on February 26, 2009.

Agri Processing

Sabah is ranked as the highest aquaculture producer in Malaysia in terms of metric tonnes (209,248 metric tonnes valued at USD$120 million), and second in marine fish landing in terms of metric tonnage (179,718 metric tonnes valued at USD$258 million). In 2019, Malaysia produced 411,782 metric tonnes of aquaculture valued at USD$790 million.

Cold Chain Logistics

Cold chain logistics suppliers can also take advantage of Malaysia’s well-recognised Halal certification by setting up a packaging base in one of Sabah’s industrial parks.

Manufacturing

Sabah offers multiple industrial parks with sound infrastructure, strategic location, and accessible logistics to facilitate manufacturing activities across a variety of sectors. Currently, the state is expanding its port infrastructure to capitalise on its location in the Brunei Indonesia Malaysia Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) region, opening opportunities to service the larger Asia-Pacific production base whose increasing population and incomes are stimulating a growing market for goods and services.

Tourism

From beaches to mountains to rainforests, Sabah offers endless investment opportunities in tourism. The state’s large and growing tourism market offers significant opportunities for investment across a wide range of tourism activities and sectors. Its strategic location in the Northeast corner of Borneo, coupled with its tropical climate, rich cultural heritage, and reputation for hospitality has made Sabah a favourite vacation destination for millions of world travellers.
